Bidders get into top gear as Motoring Library goes under the hammer...
25th May 2021
Following their highly successful ‘white glove’ sale of the Bryan Goodman Motoring Archive last December, Transport Collector Auctions in partnership with Lawrences’ of Crewkerne sold the John Warburton Motoring Library & Archive as part of their series of bi-annual Motoring Literature Sales.
With a sale rate of over 95%, the results were significantly helped by a number of Antipodean and European buyers.
Highlights of the sale included a one-owner photographic library making over £6,000, a collection of loose copies of The Motor magazine selling to a north of England institution for £2,600, various editions of The Autocar dating back to 1896 achieved an auction total of over £3,500 and, completing an interesting selection of cycling memorabilia, was a well-crafted to style, reproduction Hobby Horse making £2,750.
The auctioneer and director of Transport Collector Auctions, Peter Card commented, ‘while internet activity slows the pace of an auction compared with years past, having a worldwide audience help keeps the market buoyant and prosperous’. The partnership will be selling the Michael Worthington-Williams Library on November 16th, 2021 which again promises to be a highly noteworthy sale.
