A wide selection of Decorative Arts and Ceramics at Lawrences spanned five centuries and included lots from across the world. A carved wooden curlew by Guy Taplin, purchased from the artist 35 years ago, made £1125; a Whitefriars `Banjo` vase by Geoffrey Baxter made £2060; and a porcelain bowl by celebrated 20th Century ceramicist Lucie Rie made £3625, despite damages and repairs.
A rare Royal Worcester lyre clock doubled its estimate of £500-700 to make £1500; and a coffee set by Raymond Rushton for Royal Worcester made an unexpectedly strong price of £2500. Three Oriental lots showed the continuing strength of demand from the East: a Japanese Satsuma koro and cover made £1875, a Chinese cinnabar lacquer box was bid to £4000 and a Chinese lacquered and cloisonne screen set with 24 plaques made £4000.
