Table Lighter Blazes to £2,500..
15th April 2019
As usual, a wide variety of items comprised Lawrences Decorative Arts and Ceramics auction on April 11th. Bidding was steady throughout, with some eager bids for items of striking design and quality. An Arts & Crafts copper dish by John Pearson was dated 1889 and made £450 but an even more appealing piece of metalware was a bronze otter cub by Laurence Broderick that made £1620. A Dunhill `Aquarium` table lighter, skilfully painted with fish within lucite panels on the sides, was bought for £2500. Sixteen pieces of a Bloor Derby `Named View` dessert service included views from Scotland to Middlesex and made £1000, whilst an 18th Century onion-shaped sealed wine bottle of olive-coloured glass more than doubled expectations to take £680. Two distinctive items in the Oriental section included a pair of Chinese `famille verte` rouleau vases and a Chinese archaistic style bronze vase that was bid to £2250.
