A FIRST WORLD WAR SOMME CAUALTY GROUP TO AN OFFICER IN THE ARTILLERY.
A Great War trio comprising 1914-15 Star named to 2nd Lieutenant T.W.Osgood R.F.A. and War and Victory medals similarly named. Thomas William Osgood was born on the 19th Julyu 1916 to Thomas and Mary Osgood of Normandy House, Ash, Aldershot, he was appointed Temporary 2nd Lieutenant with the Royal Artillery with seniority from the 2nd April 1915, later being confirmed in this rank and rising to Lieutenant. He served in France and Flanders from the 18th September 1915. He died on the 19th of July 2016 serving with D Battery 23rd Brigade at the age of 31, by an exploding shell in Caterpillar Wood near Albert. In a letter of sympathy his commanding officer stated that at the time of death he was due for promotion and was carrying out the role of a Captain. He is buried at Quarry Cemetery, Montauban, his headstone is inscribed 'His life for his country he freely gave a noble life a Hero's Grave.
