Lot 646
A SECOND WORLD WAR 'TABBY' NIGHT SIGHT.
A Second World War 'night vision' monocular marked O.S.960 G.A. and Mk 1 (T), ZA23119 and NH07. This appears to be an example of the first usable night vision device developed by the British Army. In the early 1940's it represented the state of the art and was a 'top-secret' device used by crews of canoes such as the Cockleshell heroes to help them find their targets. Apparently only ever used by special forces they were extensively deployed on the Normandy beaches. Disguised to look like water bottles they remained Top Secret well into the 1950s.
