TWO SECOND WORLD WAR MEDALS ATTRIBUTED TO A DUNKIRK CASUALTY. A 1939-45 Star and a War Medal, both unnamed as issued. This pair of medals are attributed to Chief Stoker Albert Kemp who was born c1902 and died 29th May 1940 whilst serving aboard HMS Wakeful when she was part of the fleet of varied vessels that evacuated troops from Dunkirk. Wakeful; embarked 631 troops on 27th May and during similar operations on the following day she was torpedoed by E Boat S-30, all but 2 of the 640 troops perished as did 25 of the crew. Sold with a small amount of photocopied research and a photograph of the recipient and his wife on their wedding date, inscribed by Jessie '18th April 1940 to 29th May 1940' Albert is in uniform in the photograph and a ribbon can be seen with perhaps a Long Service Award which might also suggest a Great War pair. Albert is commemorated on the Naval Memorial at Chatham. Obtained by the vendor from the recipients family.
