A pair of ceremonial halberds with decorative 'blades' mounted with the Duckworth crest of a duck standing before a wheat sheaf and above the motto Nitor in Adversum. 258cm. Joseph Battersby Duckworth 1847-1912 was a successful cotton trader and business man with interests in America and throughout the Empire. It is thought by the descendants who are offering this item for sale that it may well originate from his time as High Sheriff of Cheshire.
