A CEREMONIAL TRUMPET BELONGING TO THE DUCKWORTH FAMILY OF CHESHIRE. A Ceremonial trumpet by Hy. Keat & Sons of London with decorative central boss, the flared end engraved with the Duckworth family crest and motto 'Nitor in Adversum'. Mounted with a woolwork banner featuring a central cross and four sheaves of wheat, with brown cord tassels. 68cm. Joseph Battersby Duckworth 1847-1912 was a successful cotton trader and business man with interests in America and throughout the Empire. It is thought by the descendants who are offering this item for sale that it may well originate from his time as High Sheriff of Cheshire.
