A TWO/THREE CLASP INDIAN MUTINY MEDAL TO AN ASS-SURGEON WITH THE 9th LANCERS.
An Indian Mutiny medal with Delhi, Relief of Lucknow and Lucknow clasps, named to Asst Surgn J.J. Clifford M.D. 9th Lancers. John James Clifford was born on the 8th of September 1821, a native of Ireland, he was born in to a family of surgeons who had served in both the Army and Navy. He is recorded ass Asst Surgeon with the 9th Dragoons on 26th August 157 and Surgeon Major 7th August 1866. He retired on half-pay 2nd December 1871. Clifford is recorded as being entitled to the Delhi and Relief of Lucknow clasps but not the Lucknow clasp. In the 9th Lancers 533 officers and men were awarded the Delhi clasp and 330 the Relief of Lucknow clasp.
