A GROUP OF FIVE INCLUDING IRAQ 1919-20 CLASP TO THE ROYAL NAVY.
A group of five comprising a Naval General Service Medal with Persian Gulf 1909-1914 clasp, to J.2381 J.Luff A.B. H.M.S. Swiftsure, 1914-1915. Star similarly named A.B. R.N., War Medal to J. Luff L.S. R.N. with incorrectly affixed Iraq 1919-20 Clasp, (possibly renamed), Victory Meal similarly named and an Africa General Service Medal with Somaliland 1920 clasp renamed to J.Luff SLMR.MTE, H.M.S. Clio. The roll entry for the Persian Gulf 1909 -1914 issue states 'Swiftsure 16 Nov. 1915 Dupl to Sandhurst 24.9.24'.

Records show J2381 Jesse Luff was born on 27th June 1891 in Holmwood Surrey. The 1901 census records him living at 112 Spring Cottages Dorking. The 1911 Census shows him aboard H.M.S. Formidable. A copy of Naval records show him aboard various ships betwen August 1980 and July 1927. The Iraq 1919 -20 clasp which is wrongly affixed to the War Medal should be worn with the Naval General Service Medal 1909-62, The medal roll for this clasp (ADM171/62) records the approximately 125 recipients, J.2381 Luff, J. is recorded as receiving clasp only for serving aboard H.M.S. Swiftsure, he received the award at Sandhurst in 1924. Sold with a quantity of photocopied research.
