TWO RAF PILOTS LOGBOOKS A TOTAL OF 3360 HRS FLYING 1941-1953. The Logbooks of C J Veitch who flew from 1941 -1946 in the RAF, starting in a Tiger Moth at No 27 E F T S Induna South Rhodesia in December 1941. Keeping an extremely concise record of service, with photographs and certificates pasted throughout the years. Posted to a Training Sqdn on Oxfords. Completing Flying Training he was posted to RAF Grantham, then onto Finningley Yorks. As a posting to Flying Instructors School in late 1942, he began flying Miles Magisters. It was here the ATA 'Playboy' pilot Jim A Mollison (Amy Johnson's husband) signed a slip for him, now pasted in the book. By now flying DH82A's , he was training Pilots who regarded him highly. Various letters from former pupils and photographs are pasted in, received from them. His Record of Service shows postings in the UK and S Africa, HMT Moultan etc. In 1943 he started flying Stirlings then Lancasters In September 1943 he was a Flt Sgt 1219046 as an Elementary Flying Instructor Category B. In 1944 April he commenced Operational Training, on Oxfords but now as a 2nd Pilot. In July 1944 at No 12 Operational Training Unit he began flying Wellingtons By October 1944 he was stationed at Stradishall Heavy Conversion Unit, on Stirlings. In December 1944 No 3 Lancaster Finishing School, Feltwell, where he was passed to fly Mk 111 Lancasters. In January 1945 he was posted to 218 Gold Coast Sqdn at RAF Chedburgh, flying Lancasters. On February 3rd on a Bombing Mission to Dortmund, he records 3 Fighter Attacks. On the 7th another mission over Wenne- Eickel. Later in the month Bombing Ops over Wesel, Dortmund , Kamen, Cologne, etc. In March 1945 he flew Bombing Missions over Germany nine times. In April 45 he flew flew several missions, including on the Sinking of the Admiral Scheer at Keil. Some 300 Aircraft took part in the attack, the ship was hit by Five Tallboy Bombs and capsized. So ended the most successful German Surface Raider of WW11's, Pocket Battleships and Heavy Cruisers. After the Surrender he flew missions to feed Holland and return POW's. In August 1945 he began flying Mosquito's and Proctors. Then Anson's and Auster's, Havards also Lincolns. It would appear he was demobbed, then serving again in 1946. All the aerodromes he landed at during the war are also recorded, also all his postings.
