‡STANLEY ANDERSON, CBE, RA (1884-1966)
TIMMS' SMITHY, THAME
Etching with drypoint, 1934, signed, titled, inscribed Drypoint, Edition 60 prints and only 38 prints were pulled before this plate was lost in a London "blitz"
in pencil, unframed
24 x 18cm.
* A scene at Ralph and Rupert Timms's workshop, not far from Anderson's home. In the artist's final drypoint, Anderson is demonstrating his proficiency at atmospheric printmaking rather than admiring the blacksmiths' skills. His seeming nonchalance about the loss of the plate during the War thus becomes all the more surprising.
