Lot 94
British and European Motoring Postcard Collection.
Two sturdy quarto loose-leaf ring-binders in blue, holding a superb collection of over 400 postcards (monochrome and colour) in clear polythene sleeves; four pockets to each page. A large proportion of the cards date from the early years of the 20th Century and depict vehicles like De Dion Bouton, Th. Schneider and Renault or topographical scenes including motor vehicles in Britain, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Some cards are of the greetings sort (some with children in charge of the cars), some form a series, or part of a series, depicting a narrative of early motoring, and others are in cartoon-style. Many of the later cards (post-1950) are of individual cars, racing cars, lorries, buses and coaches. A few cards are in reproduction form. Most of the cards are in very good or better condition, and the collection is principally of interest for its nucleus, the numerous scenes of early motoring in Britain and Europe. (2)
