A SILVERED MOUNTS BOWIE KNIFE & SCABBARD. A Sheffield made Victorian Bowie knife with silvered mounts and white fluted grip. 10.1/4" classical shape blade with illegible makers mark of Sheffield, stamped with crossed keys/star/D marks each side. This was the mark of John Nowill & Sons of 17 Meadow Street, Sheffield, also 119 Scotland Street, Sheffield (1856) They were working between 1848 and 1920. Thin steel crossguard with traces of plating with a shell form pomme, having a shaped scabbard with large metal chafe. See Illustration
