rectangular with a "stand-away" hinge, the cover with a pique-work design celebrating the Act of Union between England and Scotland of 1707: a Tudor rose & thistle issuing from a Royal crown with a putto heralding the news and the motto"L'Union conserve tout", unmarked 1707-1715; 3" (7.5 cms) long
*A very similar box was bequeathed in 1960 by Louis Colville Gray Clarke to the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge (Object Number: M85-1961)
