with a repousse-work rocaille cartouche on the cover, engraved in the centre with a coat of arms*, gilt interior, maker's mark only "IW" (gothic), probably Scottish, possibly by John Welsh, Edinburgh c.1760; 3.2" (8.1 cms) long
*The Arms are probably those of Pearson quartering MacNamara.
