AN EARLY NAVAL DIRK BY CULLUM OF CHARING CROSS.
With a 37cm straight pointed blade with central fuller and remnants of engraved decoration (previously a hunting sword as is often the case). With an oval guard with finely engraved border, tapering wire wound grip. With a fine shagreen scabbard with twin mounts, button and single ring suspension, engraved 'Cullum Charring Cross' and with previous owners initials. 50cm overall.
Cullum is recorded as 'King's Cutler' from 1784, a Hanger belonging to Sir Samuel Hood by the same maker in the collection of the National Maritime Museum (NMMWPN1305) has a very similar grip and pommel.
